Every dog in town needs to be licensed by April 1st. The cost of a license is $10.00 for a spayed or neutered dog and $15.00 for an unsprayed or unneutered dog. These charges are for the first three dogs. Every dog after the first three will be charged $20.00 regardless of spayed or neutered. After April 1st each license increases $10.00. In order to obtain a license, the dog must have current vaccinations and the paper work must be shown to the clerk. Every dog in your household needs to have their own license. If you have a puppy, it must be licensed within 30 days after the dog reaches the age of six months. Please leave a message at town hall (763-2313) and I will set up an appointment to with you to get the license. If it is past April 1st and you are just moving in, you have 30 days to license your dog.
You may pay for your dog(s) license by cash, check, or credit card if the vaccinations are up to date. Please leave detail descriptions about your dog(s). Name, breed, coloring, sex, spayed or neutered, and proof of rabies vaccination are needed.
The town has an ordinance for dogs running at large. The owner of a dog running at large will receive a ticket to appear before the municipal judge. Fines range from $20 to $500 with an additional charge for court fees.
Finally, under the town's ordinance 551, dogs are required to be on a leash at all times or confined in the household boundaries. The town Judge can place a fine anywhere from $5.00 to $1000.00 for noncompliance with the ordinance with additional court fees. Please make sure your dog is on a leash at all times whenever you walk them in town.
The town will be issuing tickets for any of the above. Our town judge will take care of any tickets that are given and you will be required to appear before the judge if you are given a ticket. Dogs that remain unlicensed will be ticketed after April 1st.
